A commercial on-grid solar system, also known as a grid-tied solar system or grid-connected solar system, is a solar energy system that is designed to generate electricity from sunlight and feed that electricity directly into the local power grid. How On-Grid System Works

- Solar Panels: The system consists of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels that capture sunlight and convert it into DC (direct current) electricity.
- Inverter: The DC electricity generated by the solar panels is then sent to an inverter, which converts it into AC (alternating current) electricity. Most commercial solar systems use central inverters or microinverters to optimize energy production.
- Grid Connection: Unlike off-grid solar systems that rely on batteries to store excess energy, a commercial on-grid solar system is directly connected to the local power grid. The electricity produced by the solar panels is synchronized with the grid’s frequency and voltage.
- Power Consumption and Selling: The electricity produced by the solar system is used to power the electrical loads within the commercial establishment. If the solar system generates more electricity than the building needs at a given time, the excess energy is automatically fed back into the grid.
- Net Metering: In many regions, the commercial solar system owners can take advantage of net metering or feed-in tariffs. Net metering allows them to receive credits or payments for the excess electricity they contribute to the grid, which can offset their electricity bills during periods when the solar system does not produce enough energy (e.g., at night or on cloudy days).
